What's in Your Wine?

Did you know the most store bought wines are NOT vegan? How is this possible you may ask - wines are clarified with "fining agents" which can be made from animal products. These agents are used to eliminate proteins and yeast. Take a look at some of the sneaky ingredients that are hidden in wines:

- blood and bone marrow

- fish oil

- gelatin (connective tissue, skin, bones, hooves) - isinglass (fish bladder memebranes)

- casein (protein found in milk)

Not all hope is lost, because there are several fining agents used to make wine which are completely free of animal products, which means plenty of vegan options! Ask your local grocery and health food store for their selection.
